Hard chromium has several beneficial properties which make it perfect for these applications:
- Hardness measuring 68-72 Rockwell
- High abrasion and wear resistance
- Porosity, which causes high oil retention and provides lubrication in hydraulic applications
- High corrosion resistance
- Strong adhesive properties, generally greater than 10,000 psi
- High melting point (1,900 *C), allowing for use in high-temperature environments
- Ability to bond to many base metals, including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron
- Plating layers provide the versatility to re-size, restore, and repair parts
