How to Repair Bends on a Rod, Actuator or Cylinder
Some rods, especially longer rods of smaller diameter, become bent based on carrying high load while extended. For smaller rods (<2" in diameter) with bends near the middle, we have specialized press equipment and techniques that may work to straighten the rod. For large-diameter rods with bends, or when bends are near the end of a rod, the rod is typically deemed beyond repair. Some customers ask us to plate a bent rod anyway. This can present issues, as chrome will not be evenly deposited on the bent rod when electroplated. Depending on the application for the rod and the extent of the bend, repairing a bent rod may be okay. Our technicians are always available to provide advice on bent rods.
